ABOUT ANDREW
Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi has represented Queens’ 28th District since 2005. Currently Chair of the Assembly Committee on Children and Families, he focuses on strengthening support for children, families, and seniors – with an emphasis on addressing trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) that lead to generational systemic inequity.
These include landmark victories – the signing into law of his legislation ending the arrest and prosecution of children under 12; tens of millions of dollars in security measures for non-public schools; making 580,000 additional tax filers eligible for the Empire State Child Tax Credit; and much more.
Andy is leading efforts toward Universal Child Care, and has secured billions of dollars to support the child care workforce and expand child care to working families across the state.
These are real accomplishments, with real impacts on our communities. Andy has spent his career uplifting our community and partners who make our communities home. He routinely secures millions in support directly for the 28th Assembly District, runs a consistently reliable and hands-on constituent services system, and has connected more than 250 community members since 2021 through his ongoing community volunteer series.
This is only possible through the continued support of our community and statewide partners. To this we say thank you, and hope you will re-join our campaign so that we can keep delivering for our communities together.
He has led efforts in the legislature to advance universal child care, increase wages for the child care workforce, and strengthen subsidies for families.
As Committee Chair, Hevesi continues to lead major reforms to New York’s child welfare system, including a recent law replacing anonymous SCR reporting with a confidential system – reducing intrusive investigations for tens of thousands of families and representing the largest reform to the state’s child protective reporting system in decades.
In the state budget, Hevesi has led efforts to secure expanded child tax credits, increased funding for child care and afterschool programs, secured millions of dollars in security funds for private and religious schools, as well as investments in the child care workforce.
Locally, Hevesi has organized more than 30 community volunteer events since 2021, engaging hundreds of residents, while continuing to provide hands-on constituent services across Queens.
A lifelong Queens resident, Hevesi lives in Forest Hills with his wife and daughter.
